really do not use gypsum to form a mosaic. You use a little glue to secure it on a surface, then use the mortar (which can be bought at a hardware store in different colors) to fill the spaces between the tiles. Grout is more like cement plaster.

Hardware stores carry them. There are two varieties, an Shinkai and the other not. The shinking not the best, what will be removed from the walls ........ for tile, you might want to at least lower.
Each store offers tons of building materials. And you can choose to be, gray-white or color
It is very solid and well it can be destroyed by water, so be careful when you put your mosaic
